Me as a Therapist
I am a Registered Social Worker with 10 years of experience working as therapist. I’ve worked in a wide range of settings, including women’s trauma and addiction treatment, child and youth mental health, and within primary care.
My Style
The therapeutic relationship you build with your therapist has been shown to be one of the most important factors when it comes to achieving your goals in therapy. Every therapist is going to have their own unique style and you’re not going to vibe with all of them, and that’s okay! That is why I recommend shopping around to find the right fit! For myself as a therapist, I have been described as relaxed, relatable, non-judgmental and empathetic. I tend to have a more conversational style in sessions vs structured or rigid. However, if structure works better for you, I’m more than happy to adapt! Ultimately my goal is to create a space where you can be vulnerable, feel heard and supported.
My Approach
I take a very eclectic approach to the therapy and counselling I provide. This means I use a variety of different therapy modalities (such as cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, narrative therapy, etc.) and tailor my approach based on your needs and goals. I am very passionate about supporting individuals who are struggling with the impacts of ADHD, stress, burnout, anxiety, low mood, as well as relationship and family issues. I truly believe that each person is the expert when it comes to their own lives and my role is to help guide and support you in your journey through the cultivation of increased awareness, self-compassion and finding the patterns and behaviours that are no longer serving you.
Me as an Individual
Something that I have always been adamant about is maintaining a sense of self and identity outside of my career. I am passionate about my job as a therapist, but I am also a whole person outside of that. Let me give you a little peak into who I am when I’m not working!
Question: What is most important to you?
Answer: The people in my life, including my husband, my family, friends and of course our two cats, Lexi (aka Lexi Loo, Loo, Shaky Legs) and Lily (aka Lily Bear, Lil’ Bear, Bear). My husband may tell you I love our cats more than him. This is not a statement I will confirm nor deny…that’s one secret I’ll never tell!
Question: What do you do for fun?
Answer: Spend time outdoors! My husband and I go camping several times a year and our most memorable trip was a 16-day camping road trip across Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia! Besides camping I absolutely love spending time on the beach, kayaking and hiking. Won’t lie though, I become more of a hibernator in the winter, I could do without the cold weather.
Question: What is one random fact about you?
Answer: Okay, I often get odd looks when I tell people this, but I cannot stand most board and card games. I don’t mind Uno, and maybe that’s because it was a family tradition growing up; and my husband and I have an ongoing Sorry boardgame tournament going, but beyond that, they’re a no from me!
